Everton vs Manchester United Combined XI Featuring 6 Devils And 5 Toffees

Share

Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United travel to Goodison Park this weekend as they take on Everton in game week 14 of the Premier League.

United, having drawn their previous Premier League game against West Ham, bounced back in style with a 4-1 victory over the same opponents in the midweek EFL Cup clash. And they will be hoping for a repeat of a similar performance against Ronald Koeman’s side who will be wanting to set things right after a 1-0 loss against Southampton this past weekend.

Ahead of what promises to be an important clash for both United and Everton, let’s take a look at the strongest XI featuring players from both sides:

Formation: 4-4-2

David De Gea (GK)

The Spaniard starts in goal for us in this line-up owing to his 4 clean sheets so far this season. He has looked a little shaky at times this term, but his presence in goal inspires more confidence than that of Everton shot-stopper Maarten Stekelenburg.

Antonio Valencia (RB)

His transformation into a right-back seems to be complete now. Looks much more solid in defence than he has in the past and is always on the prowl for an opportunity to hare down the flank and support teammates in attack. Has been one of United’s few bright spots this term.

Ashley Williams (CB)

The Welsh defender has been one of the best defenders in the league so far. Having moved to the Merseyside from Swansea in the summer, Williams has adjusted to new surroundings instantly and has established himself as a key figure for the Toffees.

Daley Blind (CB)

The 26-year old started the season as Mourinho’s preferred centre-back alongside Eric Bailly, but in recent games, he has been shifted out on the left. Lacking in pace, he more than makes up for it with his intelligent reading of the game and awareness. Has managed to outdo Everton’s Phil Jagielka in all aspects, be it, average duels won per game or average defensive actions performed per match despite playing three games lesser than the Englishman and add to that his amazing distribution skills, reason enough for him to feature in this line-up.

Leighton Baines (LB)

Leighton Baines edges out Luke Shaw in our combined XI owing to his slightly better displays than the 21-year old, whose campaign has blighted by a series of injuries. 31-year old Baines hasn’t had the best of the campaigns, but has managed to create more clear-cut chances than Shaw and at the same time hasn’t made any defensive errors this season. And with Shaw doubtful ahead of Sunday’s clash, the Evertonian features here.

Juan Mata (RW)

Hands down United’s best player this season. The Spaniard, despite being linked with an exit since the day Mourinho’s signing was announced, has been nothing short of brilliant for United this season. He has scored thrice and assisted one goal so far and has created chances in plenty for the Red Devils.

Paul Pogba (CM)

After a slow start to the season, the record signing is starting to peak for United with impressive performances against the likes of Arsenal and West Ham. Has created the most number of opportunities for United this season and also has two goals against his name.

Idrissa Gueye (CM)

Has been one of the bargain buys of the season. Gueye has been very good at the heart of the midfield for the Merseysiders, with his crisp passing, energetic running and fearless tackling. 14 successful take-ons out of 17 attempted, and 626 successful passes at a success rate of 88%, along with 47 successful tackles out of the 97 he has attempted, show the capabilities of the 27-year old in both attack and defence.

Yannick Bolasie (LW)

Having joined from Crystal Palace in the summer, Bolasie has very soon established himself as a vital component in the Toffees’ outfit. His direct running and skillful dribbling leave opponent defenders stunned more often than not. Has scored one goal in 12 appearances for Everton and has also set up four more for his teammates.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (ST)

United’s leading goalscorer this season with 7 goals, the giant Swede has blown hot and cold for United after beginning the campaign in a fine form. But a midweek double against West Ham should serve as a platform for the 35-year old to bounce back and if he manages to get in his elements, Everton defence better watch out.

Romelu Lukaku (ST)

Alongside the legend, we have 23-year old Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian has also managed to score 7 times this season for Koeman’s side along with 3 assists. Hasn’t been in top form off late, but expect him to struggle against United at your own peril.
