Everton signing this West Ham star in need of regular football would be a game-changing move by Silva

Why Everton should make a January swoop for Javier Hernandez

According to the Express, West Ham striker Javier Hernandez is not happy with his current role at the club and is seeking regular first-team football.

The Mexico international has struggled to find his best for West Ham since joining from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen last summer. The 30-year-old had a fruitful spell in Germany, where he managed to rediscover his scoring touch which once made him a regular starter at Manchester United.

But Javier Hernandez, after a flat first season with the Hammers, is currently struggling to find regular opportunities under new manager Manuel Pellegrini. He has made just two starts and six substitute appearances in the Premier League for West Ham so far this season, scoring only one goal in the process.

With Hernandez ready to move on from the Hammers in January, Everton should try signing him. The Toffees secured an excellent point against Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The Everton backline remained solid and defended in numbers against a fantastic Chelsea attack.

Credit to Marco Silva’s men for milking out a point at Chelsea, who are unbeaten under Maurizio Sarri this season.

And while Everton’s defence deserves praise, the attacking players produced very little that significantly threatened the Chelsea rearguard. Silva’s side largely struggled to get real chances to score and when they did create few opportunities, they bungled.

There were certainly some opportunities that went begging, but more often than not, Everton failed to create much in the final third.

Richarlison led the line for the Merseysiders on Sunday at the Stamford Bridge and barring a few intelligent movements and good link-up play, he rarely offered anything. Truth be told, the Brazilian is deadly when he starts on the left flank and creates opportunities for his teammates.

Due to Cenk Tosun’s poor form this season, Silva has handed Richarlison a No.9 role but he has failed to live up to the manager’s expectations.

Given Everton’s lack of firepower up front, they could do a wonderful job by landing Javier Hernandez when the transfer window reopens. Hernandez is a typical poacher who simply is a deadly customer in the box.

The Mexican is neither blessed with a towering frame nor the physicality to outmuscle defenders, but his good turn of pace and clever movement off the ball are his real asset.

At 30, some might argue that Hernandez is past his prime and is clearly struggling to outfox defenders in the Premier League he once did in his heydays at United, but there is still a lot left in the Mexican hit-man.

Hence, Everton should not hesitate to sign this hugely experienced and prolific Mexican international in January.
