According to reports from English news outlet the BBC, Everton have signed Andre Gomes permanently. The Toffees have taken their sweet time getting things over the line with the report further indicating that Barcelona was a little irritated with that.
However, Marco Silva and his board got things done, resigning one of their best players from last season. It shows just how much an impact the Everton fans really made on Gomes as the Portuguese international is arguably a world-class midfielder.
Gomes is someone who shouldn’t just command but deserves to be playing top-flight European football. While he was doing that for Barcelona, a few issues proved to be detrimental.
The 25-year-old has had a miserable few years after joining Barcelona but that has changed with a move to Meryside. This last season alone, Gomes has shown the aggression, creativity and ingenuity that made Barcelona buy him from Valencia.
A key player in Marco Silva’s midfield, alongside Idrissa Gueye, the Portuguese has been a revelation to say the least. He’s adapted brilliantly to the more physical and ferocious Premier League, taking each game in his stride, performing rather admirably.
It’s why Everton made the move permanent and with the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and even Wolverhampton Wanderers in the race, it’s a sensational coup. Not just that, given the Toffees’ performances last season, it’s a move that they had to make.
Idrissa Gueye has been linked yet again to PSG and that is a move that might just happen before the summer window slams shut. The former Aston Villa man was heavily linked in the January window but Silva managed to convince him to stay and finish the season.
Now that the said season is done, the situation has changed and it does leave Everton reeling. It’s not where Andre Gomes can come in and take over but the Portuguese international will at least be able to help out as the Toffees try and replace Gueye. That might be harder than they think but Gomes’ sheer presence will help ease things.
It also proves their mettle in the transfer window that Everton have managed to snag not one but three talented Barcelona players in two summer windows. That alone should help any further moves in the future and Gomes will arrive as arguably one of the club’s best players.

Andre Gomes is the world-class central midfielder that the club have been crying out for but he cannot be Marco Silva and Everton’s only signing this summer. The Toffees have a few areas that need reinforcements and it has to be the right players.
