Everton have been a team in transition under Marco Silva this season. While winning the previous two league games either side of the international break has brought positivity, changes are required in the summer window.
The Toffees have been inconsistent at the back, shipping in 42 goals from 32 league games. The frustrating thing is that they have shown in certain games that clean sheets can be kept. But when put under pressure, things have unravelled quickly.
At the other end, scoring goals haven’t been as free-flowing as we should expect from a team who aspire to finish in the top-six or top-seven of the league table.
As a potential replacement of Romelu Lukaku, they signed Turkish international striker Cenk Tosun in the winter window of last year for a fee around £27m. However, things haven’t gone as per plan.
The former Besiktas man has failed to hit the ground running. The 27-year-old even wanted to leave Goodison Park in the January window as he felt he was not getting enough playing time under Marco Silva (h/t Yahoo UK Sports).
Here’s why Everton should put the Turkish international on sale in the summer window and replace him:
Having only scored 8 goals in 38 appearances, it is clear that Tosun hasn’t done enough to be in the regular starting line-up of this Everton team. As a result, we are seeing Marco Silva either starting with Richarlison as a false nine or handing opportunities to young striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The main reason to why Tosun hasn’t been able to make an impact is that he is more of a goal poacher, rather than someone who would work his socks off when the team doesn’t have possession.
The Turkish international is pretty good when crosses are regularly coming into the box. However, he is not a dynamic centre-forward who can press from the front and run the channels frequently on the counter. Hence, he is not starting games under the current manager.

So, it would make sense from Everton’s viewpoint that they sell the 27-year-old, get some money and use that to buy another striker who fits the profile required.
