Everton have missed a trick by not doing enough to sign this PL starlet and Silva will regret it as the season progresses

Why Everton should’ve signed Kurt Zouma

The summer transfer window is officially shut in England and we got a taste of what to expect from this season after Premier League action commenced on Friday night. We also saw many of teams make a mark last night, which included Everton, who look very different from what they were last year.

They’ve now got Andre Gomes to sign permanently, Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Alex Iwobi and Moise Kean over the line, and look a different outfit to the one from a couple of seasons ago under Ronald Koeman and Sam Allardyce.

However, they’ve lost a very important component in Idrissa Gueye, who has been one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League over the last couple of seasons. They also failed to hold onto Kurt Zouma, who was vital to their defence during his loan spell.

Everton were linked with a move for Zouma all summer and could come to regret it by the end of this season as they look really short in that department.

Yerry Mina is a fantastic prospect but has suffered injuries throughout his short career and another injury would mean a lot of trouble for Everton.

Everton have been spending a lot of money under new ownership and every time they look like they have made the right moves in the market, they tend to leave other areas short. They need to find a balance in all the areas but they seem to always leave gaps somewhere.

This season, the area that they’ve left short is the central defence and central midfield. Their attacking options will have to carry them forward and yesterday’s game against Palace showcased that they still have a lot of work to do.

Marco Silva will be under a lot of pressure to improve the results in the coming weeks. Everton want to make it to the European spots and have been one of the biggest spenders in recent seasons.

They’ve been chopping and changing managers for a while now and will need to find some stability in the coming seasons and be patient.

Conclusion

Kurt Zouma is seen as a vital part of Chelsea’s future, having come through the academy. When Frank Lampard came calling, it was always going to be a difficult task for the Toffees to get him. Everton might come to regret that they didn’t try harder.
