Everton have made a solid addition to their side by signing this 27-year-old beast on an initial loan deal

Why Djibril Sidibe is a solid addition to the Everton backline

According to Everton’s official website, the Toffees have completed the signing of French defender Djibril Sidibe on a season-long loan from AS Monaco. They have the option to buy the 27-year-old on a permanent deal at the end of the season.

Djibril Sidibe became Everton’s sixth signing of the summer after goalkeeper Jonas Lossl, midfielders Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph and Jean-Philippe Gbamin, and striker Moise Kean.

He won the Ligue 1 title with Monaco in the 2016-17 season and was part of the France squad that lifted the World Cup in Russia last year.

Everton finished the last season on a high, with the players apparently showing signs of buying into Marco Silva’s philosophy at Goodison Park. They have done every bit in the transfer market to back Silva in building the squad capable of challenging for the top six in the 2019/20 campaign.

Whiles the likes of Delph and Gbamin have strengthened the midfield and will fill the void left by Idrissa Gueye, Kean will look to solve the Toffees’ goalscoring woes.

Scoring goals was a problem for Silva’s side and Kean would be raring to make a mark on his debut Premier League season by potentially combining with the likes of Richarlison, Bernard and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Silva also had the task of bringing an adequate cover for Seamus Coleman after allowing young Jonjoe Kenny to join Schalke on a season-long loan earlier this summer. And the Portuguese manager has done a great job by landing Djibril Sidibe at the club.

Sidibe didn’t have an impressive 2018-19 owing to injuries and a massive dip in form but at 27, he still has a lot to offer and can eventually establish himself as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League given his huge potential and talent.

The Frenchman is a very good carrier of the ball, an excellent crosser and capable of marauding forward with the ball and helping a team while in the transition from defence into attack.

The World Cup winner will add a lot of physicality to the Everton defence, whilst adding pace and power to Silva’s squad.

Not to forget, he is also comfortable playing further up the pitch and is the perfect defender to provide competition at right-back for Ireland international Seamus Coleman. The 27-year-old is no slouch defensively as well.

Verdict

However, Sidibe would need to adapt into the much more demanding environment of the Premier League.

There’s no doubt the Frenchman brings a lot of quality and experience to the table and if he can snatch the right-back position away from Coleman, he may well land a permanent move to Goodison Park next summer.
