Why Burnley Boss Sean Dyche Should Accept Everton’s Offer If He Receives One

All eyes were on Everton FC who spent more than £140m to reconstruct their squad under Dutch boss Ronald Koeman, the former Southampton gaffer who guided the Toffees to secure a 7th-placed league finish last season and qualify for the group stages of UEFA Europa League competition.

Although they were forced to sell contract rebel Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United, Koeman acquired a huge chunk of money for the Belgian hitman’s transfer and brought in the likes of Wayne Rooney, Sandro, Davy Klaassen, Nikola Vlasic, Henry Onyekuru, Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Cuco Martina and Gylfi Sigurdsson in order to build a competent squad for multiple major competitions.

The Merseysiders were supposed to compete with the Premier League ‘big six’ following such an active transfer window but failed miserably and are currently stuck in the drop zone of the league table. Their poor run resulted in the dismissal of Ronald Koeman when his side suffered a disastrous 2-5 home defeat to Arsenal.

Things, however, have not changed much since then as the Toffees had to put up with successive defeats against Chelsea and Leicester City under David Unsworth, the former Everton defender, who has been promoted as their caretaker manager following a title-winning campaign with the Toffees’ U23s. But Unsworth too failed to overturn their fortune and Everton are now looking to replace him with current Burnley boss Sean Dyche who celebrated his five years in charge for the Clarets with a win over Newcastle United on Monday night.

Dyche has done a commendable job for the Lancashire-based outfit with a restricted budget and earned them Premier League promotion twice, defying all odds. They had an admirable introduction to Premier League football back in the 2014-15 season. However, despite showing a lion-hearted spirit, the Clarets went down to Championship. Howver, they came back to the PL the very next season (2016-17) winning the 2015-16 Championship title.

Dyche’s men finished 16th last season thus succeeded in staying up in the league and are currently enjoying a stellar inception of the new campaign, with wins over Chelsea and Everton, as well as draws against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur – all away from home. Burnley are currently 7th in the league table and are only 3 points behind the fourth-placed Chelsea after completion of the 10th gameweek of the Premier League season.

Burnley had another successful transfer window with confined funding and the likes of Chris Wood and Jack Cork are already proving to be sensational deals following their impressive outings. Dyche is lauded for his defensive organisation and disciplined displays. His old-school football might not look exciting all the time, but it is certainly effective and Burnley are grinding out results due to his unambiguous philosophy, strictness and shrewd strategy.

The 46-year-old Englishman has fueled speculations by refusing to be drawn on his Burnley future and must explore the opportunity of managing Everton if he receives one. Dyche needs to step up his managerial career as he doesn’t have much to offer at Burnley anymore. He must not decline Everton’s plea and should try out his grade with a promising outfit that has enough money as well as top-tier reputation to reach the next level and compete alongside the Premier League’s elites.
