EPL Team Of The Week – Manchester Dominates, Suarez Still The King And A Surprise Spurs Player

Share

EPL Team of the week  (including Manchester United, Liverpool And Newcastle United Stars)

Goal Keeper & Defence

David Marshall

It may seem a little stupid to have a goalkeeper that conceded 3 goals in the Premier League team of the week, but it could have easily been 8-1 to Liverpool should it have been someone different in goal. Magnificent saves from the Scot kept out Luis Suarez on several occasions, while also denying Raheem Sterling on occasion and palmed out a stinging drive from Jon Flanagan.

Mathieu Debuchy

Mathieu Debuchy

France international Mathieu Debuchy was probably Newcastle’s best player last season and has also been flawless this season. Marauding down the right seen him as a constant attacking threat, while he was always back for his defensive duties, a wonderful player to watch.

Vincent Kompany

When this man plays a solid string of games, there is no keeping him out of the Premier League team of the week. Another colossal-like performance at the back for Manchester City. He may have scored a freak own goal, but it was merely a blemish on a wonderful game from the Belgium international.

Fabricio Coloccini

The second Newcastle player to make the list, Fabricio Coloccini played another great game for his side, and is fast becoming a modern day great for the Toon. Newcastle completely and utterly outclassed Crystal Palace in every sense of the word, and the former Deportivo La Coruna man was a clear candidate for man of the match.

Glen Johnson

Glen Johnson

It may seem a little strange to see Liverpool defender Glen Johnson on a team of the week list that isn’t on a troll website, but the England international fully deserves his place. A stellar performance in the first half seen him cap a great end to 2013 as he also played a big role in the Reds’ 5-0 demolition of Tottenham Hotspur.

Midfield

Yohan Cabaye

A third Newcastle player makes the list of the top performers of Premier League matchday 17. Dictating play and running the midfield as usual seen Cabaye produce another top display. It’s not hard to see why clubs in the Champions League are chasing the former LOSC Lille man, and the Magpies face a real battle to keep him in January.

Yaya Toure

Yaya Toure

Seemingly in the Premier League team of the week every time the subject rolls around, Yaya Toure played a starring role in Manchester City’s 4-2 win over Fulham. The Cote D’Ivoire international scored his fourth direct free kick this season, as well as being a constant menace in the middle.

Ross Barkley

Ross Barkley

The breakthrough of Ross Barkley for Everton echoes that of Wayne Rooney’s rise to prominence with the Toffees 10 years ago. Swansea played a good game overall and had plenty of possession, but lacked the killer instinct that Roberto Martinez’s men had. Barkley’s wonderful performance was topped off by a sumptuous free-kick.

Forwards

Wayne Rooney

Rooney

If he had left for Chelsea over the summer, you just have to think what position Manchester United would be in right now. He has been by far their best player and played another excellent game against West Ham. United may still be lacking what a top team needs, but the former Evertonian has really stepped up his game under David Moyes.

Emmanuel Adebayor

Adebayor

Often criticised for having clear footballing talent but not seeming to care on some occasions, Emmanuel Adebayor got Tottenham Hotspur all three points at St. Mary’s almost single handedly, with two well taken goals, and also constantly running at the Southampton defence. Roberto Soldado now has it all to do to reclaim his place in the Spurs starting XI

Luis Suarez

Unstoppable Suarez

Luis Suarez is seemingly unstoppable at the minute. 19 goals in 12 Premier League appearances this season, making him the most lethal striker in the whole of Europe. Two of those came against Cardiff City as the former Ajax man tore the Welsh side apart several times and proved his worth to Liverpool. If his value was a supposed £40m over the summer, it will surely be triple that now.
