EPL Team Of The Season 2014/15
We may only be a couple of months into the 2014/15 Premier League season, but with the international break keeping the players busy over the next week or so, we decided to pick our Best XI from the first seven gameweeks, those stars who impressed us the most in the months of August and September.
Goalkeeper
Lukasz Fabianski
While David De Gea was the star of the show when Manchester United held on to claim all three points against Everton and although Thibaut Courtois has held his own as the No.1 keeper at the Bridge, the former Arsenal man, signed the Swansea on a free transfer this summer, gets the nod between the sticks for his impressive displays so far.
Defence
Ivanovic, Cahill, Fonte, Clichy.
Branislav Ivanovic seems to have well and truly made the RB spot at Stamford Bridge his own. The 30 year old Serbian lends defensive discipline and an attacking threat down the right flank for Jose Mourinho’s side. And his two league goals so far suggests he is very much one of the best in the business at his position.
Gary Cahill has been rock solid as ever at the back for Chelsea, much like he was the previous weekend against a hapless Arsenal side who couldn’t seem to find a way past the English duo of Cahill and Terry.
Southampton captain Jose Fonte now has plans to stake a strong claim for a regular national team spot after impressing with a rejuvenated Southampton side who have leaked just 5 goals under Ronald Koeman this season.
Gael Clichy edges out Cesar Azpilicueta at the left back spot having impressed both at RB and LB this season for the defending champions Manchester City.

Central Midfield
Schneiderlin, Fabregas, Herrera.
Morgan Schneiderlin has been at the heart of Southampton’s play this season, and his busy nature in central midfield has propelled the Saints to 3rd in the league table after the first couple of months.
Little surprise to see Cesc Fabregas find his way in this team after having completed a big money move from FC Barcelona in the summer. The Spaniard has seven assists to his name in the league so far, all seven incidentally for Diego Costa.
Ander Herrera has been impressing one and all since arriving from Spain, and seems to be capable of adding an element that Manchester United have lacked for ages – goals from midfield. With two goals and one assist in the league already, can the former Bilbao man be the difference this season?
Wingers/AMs/Forwards
Di Maria, Costa, Hazard.
Angel Di Maria has been the star of Manchester United so far this season with 3 goals and 4 assists in his 5 league starts for the Red Devils, his versatility and industry providing United with that much needed balance in midfield. At this rate, the Argentine could well be a Balon d’Or contender this season.
Diego Costa has been scoring goals for fun this season having netted nine in his first seven games in the league for the Blues, the most recent coming in a 2-0 victory over a lackluster Arsenal.
Eden Hazard’s form has been patchy, or indifferent with all due respect, but the Belgian has the power and the running ability to unlock the best defences in the league. With two goals and an assist to his name, the Belgian gets a place in our EPL XI so far.
