Why Victor Moses should leave Chelsea in January

Chelsea have made a near-perfect start to life under Maurizio Sarri. They are yet to lose a game despite playing in three different competitions. The good thing about this squad of players is that they have taken very less time to adjust to the new way of playing under the ex-Napoli boss.

However, there are a few who haven’t been able to make the cut this year. Gary Cahill and Andreas Christensen are still fighting for their spots at centre-back but at least they are playing in cup and Europa League games.

However, Victor Moses has been left out for most of the matches. The Nigerian has just made five appearances this season, four from the bench and one start in an EFL Cup game. He was not even in the squad when Chelsea beat Derby County on Wednesday to reach the quarter-finals of the domestic competition.

Hence, the 27-year-old should leave Stamford Bridge in January and look for regular playing opportunities elsewhere.

Lack of playing time

Victor Moses was a part of the Chelsea squad that won the Premier League under the tutelage of Antonio Conte during the 2016/17 season. The £75k-a-week star was playing at right wing-back and really seemed to take that position on board.

The Blues were happy with him as he showed the consistency which is required when a team is challenging for a league title.

The 27-year-old did feature in a good number of games when fit last year, however, the consistency wasn’t there unlike in the title-winning campaign.

Now with Sarri in charge, there is a considerable change in the style of play. The Italian likes to play with a 4-3-3 formation with orthodox full-backs. The wide players are also chosen on the basis of their technicality and the ability to move in and around the box.

Moses hasn’t been able to make it into the team because he is an out-and-out winger who could struggle in the system which the new manager plays.

Therefore, it is crystal clear that the Nigerian won’t get much game time at Stamford Bridge. He should look for a move to see where he can play games on a regular basis. The player is still only 27 years old and has enough time to be a key player for any team elsewhere.
