Enough is enough: It’s time for Everton to offload this £4m Roberto Martinez signing

Share

Everton finished in the 8th place in the Premier League standings last season, following a dismal run of results under Ronald Koeman. The manager was eventually sacked after the Toffees lost 5-2 to Arsenal. But in came Sam Allardyce, who is well-known for his ability to save teams from relegation. However, he did more than just that, as he helped Everton finish in the top-half of the table.

But now, Marco Silva is the new Everton manager and he must bring in new players for the upcoming season. The Toffees do have a decent amount of financial backing but it could be helpful to offload some players as well. To that end, Silva could consider a sale for Muhamed Besic.

The Bosnian joined Everton for £4m from Ferencvaros and the defensive midfielder has appeared 37 times, winning 10 and losing 14.

Much of Besic’s career with the Toffees was blighted by injury problems. The midfielder never cemented a place in the starting line-up and was often left on the bench due to his injury troubles. His second season at the club was also blighted by hamstring injuries, which limited his game time.

In the summer of 2016, Besic suffered another huge setback, when he succumbed to an anterior cruciate ligament injury which kept him out for almost a year. He then missed the whole of the 2016/2017 season, only to return 16 months later in a 1-1 draw against Manchester City.

Everton eventually sent the midfielder on loan to Middlesbrough earlier in January and the move proved to be quite fruitful. Besic also scored his first goal in over four years against Derby County, making him a favourite at the club.

It is evident that Besic has no future with the Toffees, particularly under Silva. Hence, a permanent move back to Middlesbrough would suit both parties well.

It would be a waste of time for Besic to try and salvage a role at the club since the likes of Idrissa Gueye, Morgan Schneiderlin and Tom Davies are all above him in the pecking order.

Thus, allowing him to leave this summer would bring in some much-needed funds for Everton while it would also allow the player to restart his career.
