Everton signed Theo Walcott in January 2017 from Arsenal, for a fee of around £20m (h/t BBC). Just before arriving at Goodison Park, the Englishman was having a mediocre season with the Gunners.
However, the Toffees paid the money then, under the management of Sam Allardyce. But, truth be told, the 29-year-old hasn’t really hit the straps in Merseyside.
Talking about last season for Everton, Walcott scored three goals and supplied three assists in 14 league appearances. He made key passes at an average of one, dribbles at a rate of 1.9 and attempted 1.4 shots per game.
While those returns were just above average, he should have performed well this season after spending a full pre-season last summer under Marco Silva.
The performance hasn’t been at the expected level of a player who promised a lot when he burst onto the scene at Arsenal.
The winger has featured 26 times in the league this season and scored three goals to go with two assists. That is less than what he produced in 14 appearances in the second half of the previous campaign.
His dribble rate has dropped to 1.2, which says he is not really confident in taking defenders on in the wide areas to create space for a cross into the box. His key pass rate has come to 0.7, which is not good for a winger.
Furthermore, he has attempted 1.1 shots per game so far, which is also less compared to last season. All in all, the 29-year-old isn’t getting any better and that can be frustrating for the fans.

Theo Walcott’s performance at Everton hasn’t been impressive so far. The Englishman still has a few years of top-flight football left in him, but continuing to play for the Toffees doesn’t look like the right option.
