Enough Is Enough – Why Tottenham Should Sell This 24-year Old Austrian Immediately

Mauricio Pochettino has introduced many young players in his teams since his debut with RCD Espanyol and then in the continuation of his career with Southampton and Tottenham. However, we have seen Pochettino using a lot of young players and making them prominent ones in the eyes of the fans and the media.

In recent years, mainly thanks to Pochettino, Tottenham have purchased and developed a big amount of young players to their ranks, and one of the prime examples is Harry Kane, one of the most important figures of Tottenham last season, but, as we said, just a few of these players can make it in Pochettino’s squad.

Kevin Wimmer arrived at White Hart Lane back in 2015, after spending three seasons with the German team, Cologne. Kevin appeared like one of the most prominent talents last year, and he demonstrated he was not a fluke, playing great matches at the start of his journey with Spurs. This Austrian centre-back took advantages of Jan Vertonghen’s injury the past season to make himself an important player in Spurs scheme.

However, since Vertonghen came back to the team, Wimmer was benched by his coach. Since then, he has been struggling with injuries and adding that to his lack of opportunities in North London team, Kevin is reportedly keen on leaving White Hart Lane within the next two transfer windows.

Southampton has a history with Tottenham, as Spurs have taken big players like Gareth Bale from the Saints, and even their head coach, Pochettino himself. Right now the “Saints” are trying to get a kind of revenge on Spurs. Seeing the imminent departures of both Virgil Van Dijk and Jose Fonte to Liverpool and Manchester United, respectively, Southampton is set to purchase Kevin Wimmer.

As we mentioned before, this can be seen as a kind of revenge from Southampton, but this would not be a bad selling for Tottenham. Since his arrival at London, Kevin displayed good things, but unfortunately for him, he hasn’t seen much first-team action regularly, and it seems like the best option for him is Southampton, even when other teams are keen to buy him. Tottenham needs to sell the Austrian defender as soon as possible and these are the main reasons.

Kevin is a waste of money for Tottenham. This past summer, Pochettino discovered a new gem, as Cameron Carter-Vickers surprised everybody in the pre-season, relegating Wimmer to the bleachers. Even if Cameron wouldn’t have appeared, Tottenham will have Federico Fazio the next season, another great defender who can easily destroy Wimmer’s chances to make it in the first team.

Besides, luckily for Argentinean head coach, his centre-backs haven’t been struggling with injuries- except for the recent layy-ff of Alderweireld – and this would be another reason to not see Wimmer regularly. He is wasting his talent staying in Tottenham, so, there is no chance of seeing Wimmer becoming an important player for Spurs anytime soon, and that’s why he needs to leave and Tottenham needs to sell him.

Kevin is a very talented defender, and there is no doubt about his quality, but if he wants to keep growing, he needs to leave North London side as soon as possible and the Saints look ready to receive the Austrian defender. He is young, he knows the league and he will join a team with a similar style to Tottenham. This is his chance if he wants to show himself.
