Predicted Burnley Lineup To Face Newcastle United In The Premier League

Burnley will travel to the St. James’ Park to take on Newcastle United in the Premier League on Wednesday night. The Clarets occupy 8th place in the table with 34 points after 24 fixtures and will look to move past Leicester City, who sit in the 7th position, with a win over Rafael Benitez’s Magpies.

The Clarets come into the game in a better shape than their opponents, having not been involved in the FA Cup over the weekend, and will be intent on breaking the eight-match winless record in all competitions.

Team News

Sean Dyche will be without as many as six first-team players going into the game, with Jonathan Walters (knee), Chris Wood (MCL), Stephen Ward (knee), Robbie Brady (knee) and club captain and goalkeeper Tom Heaton (dislocated shoulder) all ruled out for the midweek fixture.

Probable Burnley XI

Manager: Sean Dyche

Formation: 4-4-1-1

Nick Pope (GK)

The Englishman has done a great job between the sticks since replacing the injured Heaton. Will look to keep out the Newcastle attackers on Wednesday.

Phil Bardsley (RB)

The former Stoke City man has done well in the past few games and is likely to start once again, ahead of Matthew Lowton.

James Tarkowski (CB)

The English centre-half has been one of Burnley’s best players this season. A definite starter in the heart of the defence.

James Tarkowski

Ben Mee (CB)

Alongside Tarkowski, it should be fellow Englishman Ben Mee. The 28-year old has been equally solid as his defensive partner and will look to put in another strong performance, against Newcastle.

Charlie Taylor (LB)

At left-back, with Stephen Ward still out on the treatment tables, former Leeds United man Charlie Taylor is expected to start once again.

Johann Berg-Gudmundsson (RM)

The Iceland international has been another consistent performer for the Clarets this season and will look to provide the width going forward from the right-hand side.

Steven Defour (CM)

The Belgian midfielder has seen an enormous turnaround in his form in the ongoing campaign. A definite starter.

Jack Cork (CM)

The former Swansea City man has made a huge difference to this Burnley team since his transfer in the summer. A permanent fixture in the starting XI.

Ashley Barnes

Scott Arfield (LM)

On the left-hand side, Canadian winger Scott Arfield is once again expected to take the field in the injury-enforced absence of Robbie Brady.

Jeff Hendrick (SS)

The Irish midfielder has fared really well playing in a new role just behind the main striker. Likely to be retained in a similar position against Newcastle.

Ashley Barnes (ST)

The 28-year old striker has scored just 3 goals in the Premier League this term but continues to enjoy the manager’s trust due to the amount of work he puts in at the top of the attack. Should form the focal point of Burnley’s attack on Wednesday.
