Sean Goss had become a familiar face at Old Trafford following a move from Exeter City in 2012. And reports from the club’s official website have now confirmed that the 21-year-old has moved to Championship side Queens Park Rangers on a permanent deal.
Goss, who moved from Germany to Crediton aged five and was in Exeter City’s academy before switching to the Red Devils for a fee of £100,000, underwent medical and discussed personal terms at the West London club. Born in Germany, the midfielder was hailed by some as the next Michael Carrick due to his ball-retaining skills and eye for a pass.
Goss was a major hit in United’s U18s side and quickly progressed to the U21s.
But Goss is now ready to drop down to the Championship at Loftus Road after failing to make a single first-team appearance for the Red Devils and a fee of around £500,000 is set for the youngster’s transfer.
Nicky Butt, the club’s head couach in the Youth academy told ManUtd.com:
“He did a great job at the club but it got to the point where he spoke to me on several occasions and obviously he felt it was time for him to go. He’s going to a big club in QPR and it’s a great move for him. It’s an opportunity he felt he had to take with both hands.
“He has got a lot of talent, an abundance of talent, and a wand of a left foot. He just needs to get playing men’s football regularly now and get on a roll because when you do that, all of a sudden, it starts coming easily to you.”
Unfortunately, despite playing his part in the 2015 title win, Goss was hit by a number of serious injuries which disrupted his progress into a first-team star.
Goss’ big moment came under Louis van Gaal in November that year when he made the bench for the 2-1 win over Watford. But the talented starlet suffered a season-ending injury in March 2016 and has now been allowed to move on by Jose Mourinho, he will join Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin on the exit-list.
“I’m delighted that the deal is done – absolutely buzzing. I’m at the point now in my career where I need to be playing first-team football, week in, week out – so the opportunity to move to QPR was just something I had to pursue.”, said Goss.
QPR will be hoping to see Goss fit and back to his best at Loftus Road, with Ian Holloway’s men 17th in the Championship table after winning just two of their last 10 matches.
