Dismal Fonte – The Best And The Worst Rated West Ham United Players vs Manchester City

Share

Slaven Bilic’s West Ham failed to capitalize on their run in the Premier League as they fell to a crushing defeat at the hands of Manchester City at the Olympic Stadium this week. The Hammers started the game in a decent manner but Kevin de Bruyne opened the scoring in the 17th minute while David Silva doubled the lead just 4 minutes later.

City managed to pile on the pressure and scored another before half time as January signing Gabriel Jesus got himself on the scoresheet after picking up an assist for De Bruyne’s goal. West never threatened City for long spells as Yaya Toure’s 67th-minute penalty was the icing on the cake for Guardiola’s side. The Hammers dropped into the bottom half of the table with this performance and here are the player ratings for this home side:

Darren Randolph (5):

Had no chance to stop any of the goals that went in, and also, could not command his box as his team would have liked him to on an embarrassing night.

Sam Byram (4):

Was tormented by the likes of Leroy Sane on the night as he was no match to the fluid Manchester City attack on a difficult night for the youngster.

Winston Reid (6):

Put in a super performance at the back for the Hammers but Manchester City were just too good on the day for the hosts.

Jose Fonte (3):

A debut to forget for the Portuguese who was sent packing by Sane in the first half and also gave away a penalty in the second to leave West Ham with no chance.

Aaron Cresswell (4):

His error led to the first goal of the game and he also missed a chance when 2-0 down to get his side back into the game.

Pedro Obiang (4):

An uncharacteristically poor performance from the Spanish who failed to provide any cover for his back-line. Also gave away the ball in the build-up to the third goal.

Mark Noble (4):

Spent most of the evening chasing shadows as the visitors put in a commanding performance in every end of the field.

Michail Antonio (7):

By far the best player on the pitch for the home side, Antonio put in a gigantic shift on the wing, pushing his side into the final third every chance he got. Got a chance early in the game which, had he taken it, would have changed the course of the game.

Sofiane Feghouli (3):

Can almost count the number of touches he had on the ball before being subbed off on a poor night for the midfielder.

Manuel Lanzini (5):

Was starved of service throughout the night as he had to drop deeper and deeper to get involved in the game.

Andy Carroll (5):

Won more ariel duels than any other player on the night but were just not close enough to their goal to cause City any trouble.

SUBS:

Robert Snodgrass (5):

A decent debut for the new-buy who came into the game after it was already lost.

Edimilson Fernandes (5):

Came on too late in the game to have any kind of an impact.

Ashley Fletcher:

Got a few minutes under his belt in a losing cause.
