One season and that seems to be it for Manchester United and Louis Van Gaal, well he isn’t getting the sack, and instead it could be Di Maria who is on the chopping block. The Argentine did not have the best season for United and didn’t live up to his big money move. He was supposed to move to PSG last season, but that could not take place due to FFP, this time around, PSG could be the ones trying to sign Di Maria and Manchester United could be looking at replacements for the winger.
United would have a huge transfer kitty as it is and with the extra money coming in from De Gea and Di Maria’s sales, United could easily get the players they want, any player they want to be perfectly honest. We look at three Di Maria replacements that would work for United extremely well.
1. Gareth Bale
Well this is a no-brainer, Gareth Bale has been touted by Manchester United for quite a while and after the treatment Bale got from the Real Madrid fans and Spanish media, he could be thinking of moving back to the Premier League, where he excelled for Tottenham. Bale still has the ability to turn matches around and love to play down the wing. His blistering pace, eye for goal and general attacking play would make him ideal for United. The only stumbling block would be the asking price, Madrid are adamant they do not need to sell, but De Gea could be the trump card in all this.
2. Antione Griezmann
Spanish football fans would know about this highly rated French star, Griezmann scored 25 goals in his first season for Atletico Madrid and he plays as a winger. Griezmann had an exceptional record when playing for Real Sociedad and he seems to have carried it with him to Atletico. He is a hard worker but can finish really well, a throwback to the old wingers thanks to his pace; he has great dribbling ability and can shoot and score when he likes it. He could be a realistic target for any club if they get the right bid at Atletico, the only question would be if he is willing to move to England after the past few years in Spain.
3. Nicolas Gaitan
One who might be a bit of an unknown quantity, followers of Argentine football though will know him well enough. Gaitan has been tearing down the midfield and wings at Benfica and is one of their best players over the last few seasons. The Argentine can play in both the midfield or down the wing and that is one of his best qualities, his adaptability. The truly weird thing about all this is that he is a gifted player but has spent more than 5 years at Benfica, who could now be looking to cash in on their asset since he is still relatively young at just 27.
