Despite Good Stats In Favour Of This World Class Striker, Why Manchester United Must Sign Someone Else?

Share

Manchester United could be given another huge transfer kitty to spend in the next transfer window and that is a requirement since they have really struggled this season to show what their football under Louis van Gaal is actually about.

The team still might make it into the Champions League thanks to the form of a couple of other teams who seem to be losing their hold in the top four. Getting into the European competition would mean that United have some extra money to spend when it comes to transfers thanks to their great sponsorship deals.

They do need a striker and a good one at that with Wayne Rooney struggling for form this season and the young guns of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford need time to get better.

There are a few strikers out there who could be willing to move and a couple of them are Zlatan Ibrahimović and Gonzalo Higuaín, both players have been linked with moves away from France and Italy and we look at which player would suit Manchester United the best using stats from Squawka.com

A Swede or an Argentine at United?

Zlatan is set to leave the French club at the end of the season and well, he could well end up playing in the Premier League but he is on the wrong side of 30 while Higuain has a history of scoring goals wherever he has played.

The Swede does seem to have more say in the game with a greater number of passes compared to Higuain. The PSG striker has 38.8 passes per game compared to just the 21.4 from Gonzalo. However, it is the Napoli striker that produces more key passes with 1.5 per 90 minutes compared to the 1.07 from Zlatan.

Zlatan though just about shades the stat about chances created with 1.58 chances per 90 compared to Higuain’s 1.56. Both strikers also are scoring more than a goal a game with Zlatan scoring 1.25 goals per 90 minutes with Higuain coming in with 1.03 per 90.

However, Zlatan scored 0.23 goals per 90 from penalties while Gonzalo only scores 0.11 goals per 90 which means he does score more goals from open play. Zlatan though might be older but he does seem to be better at taking on defenders.

The Swedish striker has a success rate of 69% compared to 58% for Higuain when taking on defenders. Gonzalo might not be great at taking on defenders when compared to Zlatan, but the number of goals he scores from open play, he should be the one that United should go for and get on board no matter what the price is.
