Derby County

Derby could complete the deal of the summer by landing this 27-goal machine for £6m

Jack Marriott will be a massive signing for Derby County

As per reports, Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony claims Jack Marriott wants a move to Derby County.

Marriott, 23, scored an eye-catching 27 goals in League One last season that saw him win the Golden Boot. The striker’s prolific form in League One hasn’t gone unnoticed, with Derby keen to sign him before the transfer window slams shut.

However, Peterborough have reportedly rejected Derby’s three bids for their prized asset as they value him at £6million.

A trio of players joined Derby earlier this week, with Florian Jozefzoon, Mason Mount and Harry Wilson the first players to become new boss Frank Lampard’s new signings. And while a lot of work is yet to be done in order to prepare a Championship-winning squad, Lampard must make sure he pays £6m to land Jack Marriot.

Marriott is a hot commodity this summer after scoring 33 goals last season for Peterborough following his move from Luton Town in 2017. New Derby boss Lampard faces some serious competition from his Championship rivals for the signature of Marriott.

Marriott is exactly the type of striker Derby need. The Rams scored 70 goals last season under Gary Rowett but that tally needs to increase next campaign at all costs. The 23-year-old has all kind of goals in him and can only get better with age and experience. Marriott is well-known for his pace, industry, determination and stamina whilst he is extremely deadly in front of goal. Give him a chance and he will score all day long, such is Marriott’s predatory goalscoring abilities.

Marriott is not only a prolific goal-getter but is also a diligent worker off the ball and is capable of creating chances for his teammates. Besides his staggering 33 goals in all competitions last term, he also assisted a further four. The youngster is also excellent in finding spaces behind the defenders with his movement to bring his teammates into the game. It goes without saying that Derby would benefit from having him in their squad.

Jack Marriott

The Rams narrowly missed out on securing a promotion to the top-flight last season but going forward, Lampard will be looking to mount another promotion push in the upcoming campaign. Derby’s talisman last season, Matej Vydra, could reportedly be out of Pride Park this summer and without the Czech Republic international, Lampard’s boys could struggle in front of goal. And considering everything, the time is ripe for the Rams to get Marriott on board.

Marriott has the required skills and abilities to truly make an impact at Pride Park next season and he will be a marquee signing for the club.

At 23, he has shown a lot of promise and has his best years ahead of him. If he manages to keep himself fit, I don’t see any reason as to why he cannot be a star under Lampard.
