Could This £14m Striker Complete Arsenal’s Search For A Clinical Finisher?

Share

Arsenal’s striking woes have been well documented this season as they have struggled whenever Olivier Giroud has failed to perform well. With Niklas Bendtner and Yaya Sanogo as the backup options and Theo Walcott’s injuries a constant concern, Arsenal could do well with another striker signing in the summer.

Manchester United striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez (£14m), who is likely to leave in the summer, is one of the men linked with a move to the Emirates. While it is unlikely that United would allow one of their players to join a rival, especially at this time of rebuilding, Hernandez himself might be interested in the move.

Hernandez has struggled for playing time this season under David Moyes and has fallen behind England international Danny Welbeck in the pecking order of the backups to Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie. His confidence has been affected by this lack of faith and appropriate game time, and this has impacted his finishing on the pitch.

He has been woeful at times this season and has missed easy chances when scoring looked like the simpler task. While his form may not encourage the Gunners to make a bid for the Mexican international, Hernandez has one key attribute that makes him a great option if Arsenal are able to convince United to part ways with him – his finishing.

Chicharito is a natural goal scorer and if there is anything he knows on the pitch, it is the back of the net. He is intelligent in his movement inside the opposition penalty box and gets into good areas on a consistent basis. This will certainly endear him to Arsene Wenger, who will certainly be able to utilize his talents to make the most of Arsenal’s passing game.

Arsenal have been great this season in terms of their passing football and have created a plethora of chances every game. However, their finishing has let them down as time and again they have been disappointing with the final outcome. Chicharito will be able to provide the intelligent movements inside the box and the poaching skills that might just convert Arsenal’s creativity into the end product –  goals.

So, it will all come down to the confidence of the player who is currently short of it. Arsene Wenger has known to be a man who is able to coax the best out of his players, who have since moving away from his presence, failed to keep the good work going. Hence, Wenger should trust in his man-management skills and take the plunge when it comes to Hernandez. The potential rewards after all are worth it.
