Could Arsenal Make Use Of This Chilean Next Season? Not Sanchez

Share

The Copa America is the perfect scouting fantasy for clubs, the locales of South America, some really hot headed players and a tournament where most of the teams are incredibly talented and strong. Arsenal have been on a mission to make their club stronger and the acquisition of Alexis Sanchez has given them the confidence of trying to get in more South American players.

Another player the club are monitoring is Napoli’s Eduardo Vargas, who probably scored the goal of the tournament for Chile. The attacker spent last season on loan at QPR but his exploits were not enough for the club to avoid being relegated, what is it that Arsene Wenger sees in the Chilean that makes him want to take a risk in signing him? Read on.

On loan for two years

Although Vargas signed a huge deal with Napoli, he was sent out on loan to three clubs in a span of two years, the Chilean has played for Gremio, Valencia and most recently QPR but he did shine for the London based club even though they were relegated last time around.

The 25-year-old can play as an attacking midfielder, winger or as a wing-back and although his defensive capabilities are limited but his attacking output is exceptional. His greatest ability is his speed, something which we have seen for QPR as well; he does have great control of the ball as well and loves to run with it in hopes of creating something for the team.

He is one of the best players when it comes to taking on other defenders and is known to wiz past them down the wings, he does like to cross the ball as well and can cut infield also to keep defenders guessing.

One issue with his game is his shooting accuracy which isn’t the greatest, he does get into great positions but that is let down by his inability to shoot at the target on a consistent basis. Vargas though would be used as an option for Arsenal, he could play in any of the three advanced roles behind Olivier Giroud and him coming off the bench would give Arsenal a great threat.

The ability to play alongside his countryman should be something other clubs would be worried about as Vargas seems to put in a great shift when he puts on the Chile jersey, he still has a chance of helping his country win the Copa America, then Arsene can sign him to watch the two Chileans tear up defences in the Premier League.
