Recent reports suggest that Antonio Conte is scouring the market for wing-backs in the January transfer window and Hector, as well as West Ham star Michail Antonio, have emerged as prime targets.
Hector, who is also firmly on Liverpool’s radar as well, has just signed a new deal with Koln that ties him down till 2021, but it’s understood that the Blues remain admirers of the 26-year-old Germany international as they look to strengthen their defence.
The left back is Germany’s first choice and will add competition to Marcos Alonso in the wingback position. However, landing Hector would come up as a huge challenge for Chelsea who are looking to add a powerful presence at the back as they push for the Premier League title.
On the interest for Hector, Koln boss Peter Stoger said:
“I would not say that any player of any club in the world is not for sale, but we have extended Jonas’ contract. And I think the player is clear – he knows what he wants.”
A few days ago, sources reported that Chelsea want the versatile defender who is rated around 30 million euros ($32million). Yesterday, another source reported Chelsea are ready to splash the mentioned fee to sign Hector.
Jonas would also be doubling his salary if he makes a move to Stamford Bridge and there is also a certainty that he is good enough to bring success to the London club. He should fit in well in the 3-4-3 Conte formation; the Koln man has made 16 league appearances in the Bundesliga this term and also provided one assist.
