Arsenal and Arsene Wenger have done it again. They have raised one more wonder kid and this time its a striker named Chuba Akpom. The England youth International has signed a professional contract with the Gunners after turning 17 this week.
Chuba Akpom has been impressive in the next gen series held last month, scoring twice in three appearances in Europe’s elite youth competition. Akpom also scored against Reading in the Arsenal reserves match, which is his first goal at that level. The forward is known for his finishing and excellent off the ball movements, which are the bench mark qualities that any striker needs.
In an interview earlier this season, Chuba talks about his future
“I think [reserves manager] Terry [Burton] believes in me. He just tells me to go out there, work hard and stick to the things I am good at. It’s just about trying to be penetrative behind the back four, which is all about good movement. I just want to try and keep going the way I am now. I would love to get on the bench for the first team, maybe in the Capital One Cup. If not I am just going to try and maintain my place in the reserves.”
Player Profile:
Name: Chuba Akpom
Born: October 09, 1995
Nationality: England
Position: Striker
Specialty: Off the ball movements, composure in front of the goal
Chuba Akpom can play anywhere in front of the goal which adds more quality to his profile. Chuba first played for the Under-18s when he was just 15. After playing 15 games and scoring two goals at youth levels for Arsenal last season, Chuba played in the FA youth cup and the next gen series where he further impressed the coaching staff. The forward has played four games as an England youth International, scoring thrice at the U – 17’s competition.
On behalf of Soccersouls, I wish Chuba Akpom all the best for his future!
