According to a report in Sun, Spanish giants Barcelona are once again trying to land Chelsea winger Willian, this time readying a bid around £30m for the Brazil international.
The current La Liga champions wanted the 30-year-old in a player-plus-cash deal in the January window, but that move didn’t transpire (h/t Sun). However, they are determined to complete the swoop before the start of next season (h/t Sun).
Willian’s contract next summer, hence, Chelsea would have to offload him this time, if they want to get some money out of the sale. Furthermore, Barcelona are expected to take that reason on board and pressurise the Blues to sell the player. (h/t Sun)
The Spanish side have been targeting the winger for some time now. Even few Chinese clubs also kept a close eye on him. (h/t Sun) Here’s why Chelsea would be right to sell him this summer:
Willian has been at Stamford Bridge since 2013 and has remained a decent player in the team. However, since the arrival of Maurizio Sarri last summer, the Brazilian’s first-choice spot in the team has gone away to some extent.
Truth be told, the 30-year-old has struggled for consistency as well, scoring only three goals and supplying six assists in 31 appearances. That amounts to a contribution of one goal every three games.
Furthermore, with Callum Hudson-Odoi doing well and Pedro chipping in with some important goals, Willian has become a peripheral figure in the squad.
The fact that Sarri has used him only in Europe League of late sums up that the player isn’t in the manager’s plans on a regular basis.

Therefore, Chelsea would be right to offload Willian this summer, partly because he is not a regular starter in the team and partly due to the fact that his contract expires next summer.
