Chelsea Star Takes Play Acting To A New Level, Torres Faces Extended Ban

Share

Chelsea stars involved in two funny incidents this week. First we will start with the Blues loanee Thibaut Courtois, who is playing at Atletico Madrid. As stoppage time was ebbing away, Courtois, who was involved in a “standard goalkeeper wasting time to prevent the slender lead that his side had got” started to roll around the penalty box when he was chased down by Gareth Bale.

Although Real Madrid’s world record signing managed to get the ball before Courtois could grab it in his hands and it was clear that Bale had nothing to do with the play acting.

Albeit, Atletico Madrid managed to pull off a famous victory over Real Madrid, which was their first league victory over their rivals since 1999.

In other news, Fernando Torres is in the spotlight after his little scratch incident with Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen. The Guardian reports that the Spaniard could face an additional three match ban on top of his one match ban. Torres received his first yellow card for a trip on Vertonghen following which he decides to claw the defenders face. Although it was later confirmed by referee Mike Dean that the first yellow card was awarded for the trip. Torres then received his second yellow card, a little harshly after jumping in an aerial challenge with Vertonghen.

It was first said that the striker will serve a single match ban but the Football Association is to make a decision once it has received the referee Mike Dean’s assessment of the flashpoint between the players and could use video evidence before making a final decision.

Talking about the incident, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said:

‘When you do that to someone from your same profession, I think it’s a disgrace,’ said the Chelsea boss. ‘When nobody touches you and nobody hurts you and you pretend that the opponent made a violent contact, you are putting the referee in a very difficult situation. The referee trusts the player and gives a bad decision.

‘The red card is a big  mistake. If I was the boss of the committee I would give a one-match suspension to the Tottenham defender.’
