Chelsea Special: Is Lukaku Finally Ready To Take The Throne Left By King Drogba ?

Jose Mourinho is on the brink to start his second spell at Chelsea. Can he haul his success on this stint with the West London club that he achieved last term? Well, before we anticipate anything, let’s discuss a vital change that has taken place in Stamford Bridge in this few years.

Last time, Jose Mourinho had Ivory Coast international Didier Drogba, who eventually helped the Portuguese to sweep the triumphs. Later Drogba became a Blue legend and in spite of his absence at Stamford Bridge, he is still considered to be an iconic figure at the club.

But the million-dollar question that everyone is looking for is that, who can reinstate Drogba in Stamford Bridge? The monstrous vows that Fernando Torres promised the Blues fan after his transfer from Liverpool in January of 2011 have shattered for the time being. Though he regained a whiff of his form last season, it is not enough for the Blues to keep their dream alive. Demba Ba is yet to put a mark in big stage and United officials are denying to sanction Rooney’s transfer. The only option left for Mourinho is Romelu Lukaku.

This 20-year old Belgian striker Lukaku has already mesmerized critics with his brilliant streak for West Bromwich (Chelsea loaned him for 2012-13 season), scoring 17 goals in 35 appearances for Albion. In 2011-12, at the age of 18, Lukaku was transferred from Anderlecht to Chelsea for a moderate £17 million fee. But having Drogba and Torres in Chelsea that season, he merely put his notability there.

It was the last season that Lukaku drew everyone’s attraction. Plenty of people found a similarity between Lukaku and Chelsea legend Drogba. Lukaku has also affirmed that Drogba influenced him and manoeuvred him immensely.

“He’s [Drogba] one of my best friends. He had the role of father figure to me when I was at Chelsea with him. After training we would talk for an hour or so. We have a good relationship and still talk every day. These days I tell him what I’m doing in training and he tells me if it is wrong or right.”

And the 20-year old Belgian is quite aware of the fact that it is now his responsibility to bear the legacy of the Blues on his shoulder.

“Didier’s a legend. Now it’s up to me to do the same as he did,” said Lukaku. “And I want to achieve that as fast as possible.”

With such a colossal determination in mind, Lukaku will surely be the next big thing for the Blues to offer. So, the fans have to wait for the kick-off to get their answer.
