Chelsea continued their unbeaten start under Maurizio Sarri this season as they romped to a 4-0 win against Burnley this past weekend. The Blues, along with Manchester City and Liverpool are the only teams yet to be beaten this season. Sarri’s men are very much in the race for the title but they could use another goal scorer or two in their squad.
Though Chelsea look like a free-flowing side at the moment, the Blues strikers haven’t been at their best this season. Alvaro Morata has been far too inconsistent while Giroud doesn’t receive the time needed to make an impact.
Chelsea can take a look at Manchester City winger Leroy Sane. The German has gone from a key player to a fringe member this season. He was also not a part of Joachim Low’s World Cup squad in Russia. Sane has made just 4 Premier League starts this season.
The Blues should try and make a move for the German winger. He may be a bench warmer at the moment but Sane played a pivotal role for the Cityzens last season as they marched their way to the league title. The German racked up 10 goals and 15 assists in 32 league appearances. (Stats courtesy – Premier League)
His drive and energy make him extremely catchy to the eye while his ability on the ball makes it extremely difficult for the defenders to get him off it. Sane is used as a left winger but is also capable of playing on the right flank and through the middle.
Sarri uses a 4-3-3 formation at Chelsea that is very much similar to what Pep fielded last season. This should see Sane fielded in a very familiar role, giving him the chance to flourish under the Italian. The likes of Eden Hazard, Ross Barkley and Alvaro Morata will definitely thrive playing alongside the German.
He will provide them with the width and would drag defenders out of their position, giving Morata ample space in the middle of the park. Sane is also very good with his deliveries into the box. Morata’s ability to latch onto aerial balls should see him receive ample chances with Sane in the side.
As Chelsea fight in the Europa League and in the Premier League, Sarri must definitely make a move for the 22-year-old.
Despite failing to feature regularly this season, he has picked up 2 goals and 2 assists in the league. Chelsea will look a completely different side with Sane in their ranks and they will possess the quality to trouble Manchester City as well. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)
