Chelsea Player Ratings After Win Over Norwich: Hazard and Matic Shine for the Blues

Share
Eden Hazard

Norwich City defended for their lives, but could only come close to losing to Chelsea with just a one goal margin. The win allowed Chelsea a way to get back on track and get their season rolling once again, as Diego Costa’s 64th-minute strike handed Chelsea all three points in the game in which Norwich had enough men behind the ball every time Chelsea came forward to attack. But the best thing about the way Chelsea played was that they looked comfortable on the ball and looked more assured on it than they have throughout this season.

Chelsea

Asmir Begovic- 7.5

Didn’t have much to do throughout the game as the Canaries had a limited amount of attempts on goal, but looked good when he was in need of doing something.

Branislav Ivanovic- 7

Neither was this his best game nor was this his worst. But it was an okay game to come back to form and do so slowly after a horrific start to the season. Made some decent tackles to the end of the game but lacked a bit of confidence.

Kurt Zouma- 8.0

The young Frenchman seemed unaffected by the tragedy that occurred in Paris and put on an impressive performance and looked as solid as he could. Made some crucial interceptions and blocks and used his body very well to shrug off the opposition players.

John Terry- 8.0

One of Terry’s most assured performances of the season, the aging Englishman was just as good as his defensive partner at the back. Was seen putting his body on the line and looked compact till the very end of the game.

Kenedy- 8.5

The young Brazilian never gave an impression that he was being played out of position and looked a perfect fit at the left back spot. His pace and link up with Hazard caused serious problems to Norwich throughout the game. His passing was incisive too.

Nemanja Matic- 8.5

He looked very much like the Matic we know from last season and didn’t just sit deep to distribute passes and win balls back, but made some overload runs into the box, that caused the Canaries some problems. Protected the back four well too.

Cesc Fabregas- 8.0

With Matic providing defensive solidarity, Fabregas looked more like his real self. Set up the goal after a quickly taken free kick and had more of an authoritative aura around him.

Pedro- 7.5

Out of the midfield triumvirate behind Costa, the former Barcelona man looked the least effective. Didn’t carve out any significant opportunities to score and never got into positions that would’ve allowed him to score, apart from an exception in the second half.

Eden Hazard- 9.0

Arguably the player of the match, Hazard reminded us what he’s capable of on his day. He oozed with swagger and confidence and always looked to do something and create something. Looked impressive and was willing to go past the defenders.

Willian- 8.5

Had a free roaming role and excelled in it. Was on the flank at once and on the other the next. Always looked to make runs forward and dash forward with the ball and his set piece deliveries was a cause of concern for Norwich.

Diego Costa- 8.0

Diego Costa

Was left agitated in the first half and didn’t look too good during the first phase. Got the all important goal and improved in the second half.
