According to a report in Daily Mail, Chelsea are set to hold contract talks with young starlet Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the summer. The 23-year-old’s current contract is due to expire at the end of 2020/21 season.
As per the report (h/t Sun), the Blues director Marina Granovskaia wants to sit down with the player and convince him to sign a long-term deal. In short, the club is looking to secure the future of one of their own.
Furthermore, Chelsea are hoping to avoid the Callum Hudson-Odoi situation and are looking to secure the midfielder’s future before it becomes too late (h/t Daily Mail).
Loftus-Cheek wasn’t one of the regular starters in the team when Maurizio Sarri arrived. However, he has been starting more often than not since the turn of the year.
This says much about the development the player has made under the current manager. Here’s why a new deal would suit both parties.
Since starting regularly in a blue jersey, we have been able to see the qualities that Ruben Loftus-Cheek possesses. He is a proper central midfielder who can cover an ample amount of ground throughout the course of a game.
The 23-year-old’s physicality helps him win aerial duels and also aids him to shield the ball in tight areas. His passing has improved on a gradual basis and the late runs into the box are always a worry to the opposition defenders.
The best thing about the midfielder’s game is his desire to win the ball back once it’s lost.
That is when the greatness of the player is measured. Obviously, Loftus-Cheek has a lot to learn, but he is moving in the right direction at a club he started playing football with.
We all speak about the continuity that is required at Chelsea in terms of the manager and the players involved from the youth academy.
Keeping Loftus-Cheek on a long-term basis not only secures the future of a quality player but also signals the intent of the club to believe in their youth prodigies and keep them over a period of time.

Therefore, by offering a new deal, Chelsea would be able to get the best years of Loftus-Cheek in a blue jersey.
From the player’s point of view, this is the club for who he started playing football. Hence, he should be happy that there would be a chance to play first-team football for them for years to come.
