Does This Chelsea Mdifield Duo Deserve To Be The FIrst Choice Players Under New Manager Conte?

Share

After a horrific campaign for former Premier League champions, Chelsea, which saw themselves finishing the 2015-16 campaign in 10th place and it would be quite easy to say that not too many things went right for the Blues and that there is a serious need for change. Many areas within the squad need to be strengthened, which new manager Antonio Conte will look to rectify in the upcoming days.

Defence will be his first concern, as he looks to strengthen his back-line first. Further, as he will look beyond that, his next concern would be whether or not the pairing of Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic should be his first choice to start in midfield.

The duo had a really poor season and failed to perform as they had done in the campaign prior to that, helping the Blues become the champions of England and win the League Cup as well.

However, there was such an immense drop of form, last term that things just never seemed right for the holding midfield pair. Whether it was Fabregas and his poor form with just 10 assists in the entire campaign, or Matic, and his lack of discipline, the momentum never went their way. The team as a whole could not find any sort of form and the pairing slowly faded away as well.

Now, the thing with the former Juventus boss is that, he will be expecting to bring in a lot of players that he prefers to play in his starting eleven, mainly from the Serie A to west London. These players would be suited to Conte’s style of football, in particular and the manager had been scouting them during his time in Italy.

This would create a competition for places and it is obvious that the new Chelsea boss would rather pick the players that he brings in, over the ones already present at the club. Conte will be given a big sum of money to spend on players that he wishes to add this summer and could possibly change the whole shape of the current squad at Stamford Bridge.

Many players could even possibly leave the club and there were rumors of Matic being one of them. The Serbian international was linked with a reunion with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, with a host of other European clubs keeping tabs on him as well.

Also, Fabregas had recently indicated in a recent interview that he could be considering a return to Spain, though a comeback to the Nou Camp was really not on the cards. This could mean the end of his career in England and the Spanish international could be all set to make a move back home, though there has been no confirmation of an offer from any La Liga outfit so far.

Well, with things still falling apart for the existing players in the Chelsea lineup, it doesn’t seem likely that the pair will be starting too many games for the Londoners in the upcoming campaign.
