Is The Chelsea Manager Sufferin From The Classic ‘Third Season’ Syndrome

Share

Things just seem to e getting from bad to worse for Chelsea and their manager Jose Mourinho, they have struggled throughout the season and every time we expect them to bounce back, they end up losing yet again.

The Blues sit just four points above the relegation zone and have lost half of their Premier League games this season, no one has been able to put a finger on it, well at least Jose hasn’t been able to. The Portuguese manager might be suffering from the dreaded third season that he is known for and that would not be good news for anyone.

Jose Mourinho

One season to build, one season to win and one season to destroy

Every time Jose has started a third complete season for a team, he has ended up fighting with a few people and then has ended up getting the boot from the club. This has happened to him twice, with Chelsea in his first stint and with Real Madrid, in both the cases he won silverware with the club but the third season became a bit of a disaster.

The case with Real Madrid is especially similar to the current scenario, apart from going to war against journalists and the club members, his treatment of various legends and club stalwarts gave him a bad light in the press and supporters.

Mourinho, this season hasn’t covered himself in glory with the treatment of John Terry and his insistence to play with Ivanovic hasn’t been the correct way to go as well. Mourinho seems to have a fascination of playing with a core set of players even when they are not performing to their ability.

Mourinho’s Real also were lagging behind Barcelona that season and Mourinho’s Chelsea are lagging behind Manchester City this season as well. The Champions have no realistic chance of winning the league unless City start slipping massively. The target now is to get the fourth place at least and enter the Champions League.

There still is a chance of Mourinho turning it around at the club that he holds close to his heart. The manager had stated that he wanted to create a dynasty at the club and that is still possible, if he can win a trophy or two this season, it might not be the worst season for him, of course getting into the Champions League is a requirement.

Mourinho even dared his owner and the board to sack him if they dared but they have relented with the Portuguese saying his position at the club is not under threat, that will be worth keeping an eye on but at the moment there aren’t many top managers available. Once a few are free or state their desire to take up a role at Chelsea and if the Blues continue to struggle, it will be interesting to see how the management will react to Mourinho.

Jose Mourinho

For the moment, he still is the manager at the club and if anyone can turn it around, it can be Mourinho. Third season syndrome is up and running and only Jose has the tonic which can solve this crisis at Chelsea.
