Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has now said that ‘big’ clubs are never guaranteed a Champions League place by pointing to Saturday’s opponents Liverpool. The Portuguese manager will now be fighting to save his job at Stamford Bridge, as his side face Liverpool. The champions of England are at present 15th in the Premier League table and it seems will have to struggle to finish in the top four.
The Reds sacked Brendan Rodgers replacing him with Jurgen Klopp, after having missed out on a top-four finish last term, while David Moyes was fired for the same by Manchester United.
However, the Blues’ boss has now said, “Chelsea is a big club. It’s the club I chose to come to. A club I live in a very specific way, with respect. Liverpool is a big club. Man United is a super big club.”
“Last season Liverpool won nothing and didn’t qualify for the Champions League, and they are still a big club. Two years ago United didn’t qualify for the Champions League, not even the Europa League, won nothing, and they are still a monster club. That is football.”
When asked if his team will finish in the top four and whether he has guaranteed the same to owner Roman Abramovich, he said, “I cannot promise”.
Further, talking about start striker Diego Costa’s return, he stated, “I am a little hopeful, he will have a fitness test in the morning. It’s more about the confidence, not the desire because that’s there.”
