According to the Sun, Chelsea are one of many teams who are in the running for the signature of Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio. According to the report, Los Blancos are willing to sell the Spaniard but any potential suitors will have to meet the club’s asking price of £100million.
The Sun claims that Liverpool have shown a keen interest in acquiring his signature, while Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be lurking around. However, Chelsea should definitely beat off their competition and make an advanced move for the player.
Asensio was very much expected to light up the La Liga for Real Madrid this season after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. But the 22-year-old has so far failed to impress under new manager Julen Lopetegui. The manager himself has undergone a lacklustre start to his spell as Real Madrid boss.
But Asensio is still one of the most sought-after players in Europe. He made a significant impact for the Spanish outfit after spending two seasons on loan with Mallorca and Espanyol. Since then, the youngster has gone on to score 10 goals for the European champions.
He is a direct player when on the ball and that is something the current Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri usually loves. The Spaniard likes to take on defenders and he possesses a gem of a left foot. He can seamlessly slot into the 4-3-3 formation that Sarri has used this season.
Asensio is often used as a left winger or as a left attacking-midfielder but the youngster is also comfortable playing through the middle. He is also capable of being fielded as a right-winger and is a very versatile footballer. The likes of Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata will definitely profit from Asensio’s inswinging crosses into the box.
Chelsea talisman Eden Hazard has been linked with a move Real Madrid in recent times and should the Belgian decide to make a move away from Stamford Bridge, Asensio will be an able replacement for him.
Though not a similar player and not yet the polished product, Asensio is definitely capable of taking the Premier League by storm.

Sarri must definitely beat Liverpool and other competitors to the signing of the Spanish international. Chelsea might need him more than anyone else should they lose a player of Hazard’s stature.
