Cesc Fabregas Reveals Why He Joined Chelsea Despite Arsenal Link

Share

Former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has come out and revealed the reasons behind joining Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea this summer. The midfielder sat down with Spanish publication cope.es in Spain today as he joined his International team mates ahead their Euro 2016 qualifiers against Slovakia and Luxembourg.

While there has been several theories behind Fabregas’ decision to move to Arsenal’s London rivals Chelsea despite the Gunners having the first preference to sign him from Barcelona, the midfielder reveals his version of how the events unfolded after his horrible time with the Catalan club.

The pressing point to be noted was the fact that Fabregas had three offers on the table from Premier League clubs this summer, but decided to join Chelsea after Arsenal informed him they already had enough midfielders among their squad.

Here are some of the quotes from his interview:

On his move to Chelsea

I’ve always played in clubs where I wanted to play… At the end of last season I saw Chelsea as the best option… I always thought about a return to England, and I talked to Mourinho and realised this was the best option.

On not going to Arsenal

Wenger was already covered with Ozil, Cazorla and Wilshere, and so I was less needed [to fill a midfield] position, so I decided to go to Chelsea. Arsenal had an option, but they told me there had similar players in my position.

On his face to face meeting with Mourinho:

It was arranged through my agent. There was no call with Mourinho, just a face to face meeting.

If I had not had confidence [in Chelsea] I would not have talking with [Mourinho]. [Jose] showed by great respect and convinced me quickly. We were honest, we put aside any history, and I made my decision after talking with him. Overall, I had three options [on the table from] England.

On the push Wenger to Mourinho:

I did not see it live.

On Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo:

Messi always!
