Celtic FC opinion: Celtic should revive their interest in Dominic Iorfa

Celtic were linked with Wolves’ Dominic Iorfa in the January transfer window according to the Express. The chances of him joining in January were very high but for reasons unknown, the move did not materialise.

The 23-year-old will see his contract run out this summer and Celtic will be hoping they can snap up his services this time around without any delay. The youngster spent his last season on loan at Ipswich Town to gain some much-needed experience after failing to make the climb into the first-team.

Son of the Nigerian international with the same name, Iorfa has been at the Molineux since he was 15. He is an all-purpose defender, who can play at full-back but whose preferred position is at centre-back.

Standing at 6 feet and 2 inches tall, Iorfa is strong in his duels and has the pace and athleticism to catch up to the fastest forwards but can be a little rash at times. It’s this consistency that he needs to work on and Neil Lennon is the ideal manager to help him in his development.

Dedryck Boyata will be leaving the club this season and he will be a massive miss for Celtic heading into the new season. Iorfa will have massive shoes to fill. He should look at this as a challenge and do what he can to make that position his.

Kristoffer Ajer and Jozo Simunovic have been Neil Lennon’s first picks and will probably continue to do so but Iorfa has a far higher ceiling than the two and he will be a great deputy for the senior centre-backs.

Neil Lennon will be looking to continue the progress he’s made as caretaker manager. Brendan Rodgers’ departure came as a bit of a shock but Lennon has quickly steadied the ship and will be hoping to do the same next year.

Conclusion

Iofar has a bright future ahead of him and there aren’t many better places to play football in than Park Head. It is a wonderful opportunity for the 23-year-old and he should take hold of the opportunity with both hands.

Neil Lennon will hope that the Hoops can continue their domination in the league for the forseeable future with Iofar in the team.
