According to a report in Football Scotland (h/t Calciomercato), Atalanta defender Timothy Castagne, who has been a subject of interest from Celtic, is now eyed by Serie A side AC Milan.
The Belgian international’s performances have attracted interest from the San Siro-based team. Celtic were interested in him during the January window, but a fee around £10m seemed to hold them back (h/t Football Scotland).
Castagne began his career at Belgian side Genk before moving to Atalanta in Italy. He has three international caps to his name.
Here’s why Celtic should reignite their interest and beat AC Milan for the signature of the full-back in the summer window:
If we look at the options that Celtic have at right-back, none of them is here on a long-term basis. Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa’s contracts expire at the end of this season and there have been no updates on whether they will sign an extension or not.
On the other hand, Jeremy Toljan, who was signed on a loan deal in January, hasn’t really done well and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he goes back to his parent club in the summer.
Hence, it is pretty obvious as to why Celtic must spend on a quality right-back in the upcoming window. Timothy Castagne could be an ideal solution to this issue.
This is in relation to the fact that the Belgian international is a high-quality player, who is just 23 years old and has a long footballing future ahead of him.

All in all, the Scottish champions must pay the amount required to buy the Atalanta full-back and keep him for the seasons to come.
