According to a report from the Chronicle Live, Newcastle United are considering a move for Spartak Moscow’s hitman Ze Luis in the summer. The striker’s performances in the Russian top-flight have caught the eye of the Magpies as they look to bolster their attack for next season.
Rafa Benitez’s side spent a massive £21million for Miguel Almiron in January, which has raised the fans’ expectations to spend big again in the summer. Salomon Rondon’s loan deal expires in the summer and the Venezuelan’s future is still uncertain at the club.
Newcastle should not lose too much time with uncertainty on Rondon and should look elsewhere at similar or better options and Ze Luis would be a perfect fit at St James’ Park.
With 12 goals and 4 assists in all competitions for Spartak, Ze Luis has taken the Russian League by storm since his arrival from Braga in 2015. Besides his goal-scoring prowess, Ze Luis is a massive asset to his squad off the ball and is a type of player who is must-have for any team.
Like Rondon, Ze Luis can play as a solid target man and his physicality will highly suit the Premier League. His hold-up play is brilliant and his awareness allows Luis to lay off firsttime passes to incoming runners.
The Cape Verdean, despite his stature, is surprisingly quick and is highly clinical when through on goal. The 28-year-old is a brilliant poacher of the ball and is deadly in front goal from close range.
His positional awareness inside the box is fantastic and always manages to find himself in the right place at the right time. Ze Luis is at times unmarkable in the box as he somehow always manages to free himself in set piece-situations.
His aerial prowess combined with his ability to get away from the defender is his biggest trait and also possesses outstanding heading ability.
