The Scottish national team suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Kazakhstan last month in the Euro 2020 qualifiers.

In the wake of the result, then-manager Alex McLeish was sacked by SFA.

Since then, the Scotland Football Association has been in the hunt for their next manager and now Forrest has backed ex-Hoops star Maloney.

He said, (h/t The Daily Record UK)

I played with Shaun at Celtic and Scotland so I know what he is like. Boyata is now working with him at Belgium and he is telling me all the Belgian players are really impressed.

“Obviously he is doing well if somebody like Roberto Martinez has taken him on.

“If he came to Scotland I think that would be a really good addition.

Maloney commenced his managerial career with the Hoops U-20 set-up in 2017.

The former Wigan Athletic midfielder left Scotland to join as a coaching staff in Belgium the following year.

Forrest has urged the SFA to find their new manager before the Cyprus game.

Callum McGregor

Scotland are currently in Group I alongside some big names like Russia and Belgium.

Following the Kazakhs defeat, the Scotsmen were able to subdue San Marino 2-0.

They are second from bottom in their group and will play Cyprus in June.

Forrest has been in sensational form this season, scoring 14 goals and 9 assists across all competitions.
