Celtic FC News: Celtic revive interest in signing Polish defender Robert Gumny

Celtic FC News: According to the reports from HITC, Celtic have revived their interest in signing Robert Gumny of Poland.

The Hoops lined up a £4.3 million move according to Gazeta Wyborcza (h/t HITC) for the defender in January before an injury hindered the progress.

The Scottish club acquired Jeremy Toljan from Dortmund on loan as a temporary solution.

Now, reports suggest the polish right-back is keen to make a move this summer from his current club Lech Poznan and the reported buyout clause is around £6.8million (h/t HITC).

Having risen through the youth ranks of Poznan, Gumny quickly broke into the senior squad.

The fullback had a short-time loan spell at Podbeskidzie and has represented his country’s U-19 team 17 times.

Gumny was named on the list of UEFA’s list of top 50 players aged 20.

Why should the Hoops pursue?

The Hoops are running out of right-back options as Toljan is acquired only on loan while the 32-year old Mikael Lustig is in the twilight of his career.

The Scottish club would face a big completion as the top clubs in Germany, England and Italy are reportedly keeping an eye on this youngster (h/t HITC).

Celtic are set to face Hibernian in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals under new manager Neil Lennon.

Lennon was appointed on a temporary basis after Brendan Rodgers parted ways with the Scottish club to join Leicester City.
