Celtic FC News: Benkovic doesn’t know who has more fans in Glasgow

Celtic FC News: Filip Benkovic of Celtic isn’t sure if the Hoops or Rangers have a larger number of fans in Glasgow.

This Scottish rivalry is undoubtedly one of the biggest in the continent.

The Croatian has joined on loan from Leicester, featured in the first derby day where the Light Blues ended as the winners. In fact, it was the first victory for Steven Gerrard’s side in last 13 derbies.

The centre back shared the interesting facts about the rivalry while speaking to Sportske Novosti (h/t HITC)

“When someone asks me whether there are more Celtic fans or Rangers in Glasgow, no one knows the answer.

“It makes sense because somehow it turns out to be half-a-half. They don’t like each other. It [rivalry] has been going so long and it will probably remain so forever.”

Rivalry helps grow the competition

He later praised the rivalry as it enhances the competition level and draws interest from the people.

The former Dinamo Zagreb defender was acquired for a fee of £13m (h/t HITC) by the Premier League club Leicester and Benkovic later made a move to the Scottish League.

He also expressed his desire for moving to his parent club soon next season. The Croat has made 16 appearances in this Premiership campaign for the Hoops.

The Hoops are currently leading the Premiership table and are set to take on Valencia in the Europa League round of 32 tonight.

Brendan Rodgers is looking to lift the eighth consecutive Premiership title this year.
