Why Celtic should move for Bruno Davidson as a long-term prospect

The Sun have credited Celtic with an interest in highly-rated teenage prospect Bruno Davidson, who currently plies his trade with Edinburgh-based non-league outfit Hutchinson Vale. 

The 15-year-old wonder kid has also attracted interest from Premier League clubs Wolves, Leicester City and Southampton, although the Hoops are in pole position to bring the homebred talent to Glasgow in the coming months. (h/t Sun)

The report adds that Davidson visited the Saints last week while Celtic and League One promotion hopefuls Sunderland have already made an offer for his services.

The teenager is still too young to put pen to paper on professional terms at his current club, meaning that he is expected to be available for a small compensation fee.

Celtic successfully beat off competition from a number of top English clubs in the race to sign Bolton Wanderers prodigy Luca Connell in the summer, while Southampton starlet Jonathan Afolabi and Man United academy starlet Lee O’Connor also came through the door at Parkhead. 

Jeremie Frimpong, who arrived as a long-term prospect from Man City in the summer has already made his mark at the senior level, with Neil Lennon clearly showing that he is more than happy to rely on the 18-year-old for a role in the Scottish Premiership. 

Now, if the report from the Sun is to be believed, the Hoops could be edging closer to getting their hands on yet another highly-rated youngster, with the reigning Scottish champions leading the race to sign Bruno Davidson. 

Besides spending to build a formidable first-team capable of stamping their authority on the domestic front, the Hoops must also inject their youth ranks with some much-needed quality. 

Not much is known about Bruno Davidson, his style of play, strengths and weaknesses since he is yet to ply his trade at the highest level. However, the fact that he is already a sought-after property at the age of 15is a testament to his potential. 

To that end, Celtic have every reason to look at him as one for the future and the Hoops could possibly have a gem on their hands if the starlet goes on to fulfil his promise in the years to follow. 

The lure of honing his skills and building a career at some top club south of the border might appeal to the teenager but his development would be best served by joining Celtic, given that there is a clearer pathway to the senior ranks from the academy. 

Verdict

Neil Lennon handed 16-year-old academy wonder kid Karamoko Dembele some first-team opportunities towards the end of the previous campaign and Bruno Davidson could also get a fair crack of the whip in the near future if he manages to impress the manager with his development. 

Undoubtedly, there are still plenty of stages left in his development curve before Davidson evolves into a finished article.
