Leicester City Opinion: Can Timo Baumgartl make an impact at Leicester?

The 2018 summer transfer window saw Leicester City do some very smart business, improving key positions. Both Ricardo Pereira and Jonny Evans came in to strengthen the defence, James Maddison and Rachid Ghezzal improved the attack while Youri Tielemans added depth in the midfield.

However, the addition of Caglar Soyuncu was supposed to be good news but the 22-year-old has failed to make any impact since a big summer move from SC Freiburg.

The Turkish star was simply incredible in his final season for the Bundesliga side, which prompted the Foxes to make the move for him.

His first season in the Premier League, on the other hand, has been marred by injuries and various other issues. While he still remains a viable option, the club needs another choice.

Wes Morgan is 35 years old, while Jonny Evans is already 31 years old. This leaves the club with just Harry Maguire as their main centre-back.

That’s exactly why the club needs to target VFB Stuttgart man Timo Baumgartl. The 22-year-old has been one of the few bright lights in an otherwise terrible season.

The Bundesliga club sit in the relegation spot and could go down even further, unless they improve. However, despite that, Baumgartl has still become a defensive colossus, making a name for himself.

A ball-playing defender, the youngster is the best of both worlds in defending. Not only is he good with the ball at his feet but the German international is a very strong tackler as well. He’s averaged 2 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 5.3 clearances per game according to Whoscored.

That shows just how good he is. Baumgartl also has an average passing accuracy of 81%. That combined with his athleticism and strength makes him perfect for Leicester City in the near future. He is just 22 years old and the Foxes would get a long-term replacement for Wes Morgan by signing him.

But that’s only if a move does take place. If Stuttgart do get relegated then it would be easier to sign him.

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
