Can Diego Costa’s Spanish Compatriot From Madrid Replace Him Ably At Chelsea?

Share

Antonio Conte’s Chelsea were back to winning ways this weekend as goals from Marcos Alonso and Pedro gave them a comfortable 3-0 victory over Leicester City away from home. Conte will be a happy man with his team’s performances but he will not be too pleased with the situation of star striker Diego Costa this month. The Spanish international is in sublime form this season and is currently the top scorer in the league; level on goals with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexis Sanchez at the top. But he got stuck in a beef with the manager who decided to leave him out of the club for the trip to the King Power. These antics have now seen reports suggest that the in-form attacker is going to leave the club at the end of the season.

Costa is an integral personnel to the plans of Chelsea and he needs to be at his best if the Blues are to go all the way this season but it is hard to see him stay at the club for another campaign and Conte is already looking at alternatives to add to his squad in the summer. Though Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann will be the first choice for the manager at the Bridge, he is now linked with a move for Real Madrid star Alvaro Morata.

Also Spanish, Morata was the subject of interest from various clubs around Europe in the summer including Chelsea but Real Madrid managed to keep him at the Bernabeu to help stay strong this season. However, he has not been able to cement a place in the starting XI and has just 6 appearances for the side in the domestic league in Spain. He is a genuine goal scorer who picks up dangerous positions in the final third and his time in Italy has shown that he is ready for the biggest stage.

He is a typical Spanish player who loves to have the ball at his feet. He believes in quick passes that can get through opponents but is more than adept at dribbling past opponents if needed. His biggest strength is his composure in the final third where he invariably finds space and time on the ball to try and find the back of the net. He is a star player, who has helped Real in the few games he played and will be a great addition for Chelsea.

He can act as a target man but will also chip in the build up to goals by dropping deep. He is not afraid of the physical battle that can be intimidating in the Premier League while is also alert to his defensive duties. He is also decent in the air and is a player that would walk into most teams and he has what it takes to replace Costa at Chelsea.

Costa is a poacher who will score improbable goals making him all the more effective but if Chelsea spends on Morata and play to his strengths, it is inevitable that he can be as effective as Costa or even more. The Real Madrid man has played in Spain and Italy so far and should not find it too difficult in England and at just 24, he is only going to get better. He may cost Chelsea on the higher side but if Costa quits, Conte does not have too many options in the transfer market, better suited than Morata.

Do you think Alvaro Morata is a decent replacement for Diego Costa at Chelsea?
