Can This £60m Leicester City’s Duo Solve Arsenal’s Attacking Woes?

Share

Arsenal should have won the Premier League this season, but that was far from actually happening. The Gunners not only flattered to deceive, but losing the title to Leicester, after leading the race at one point of the season must hurt a lot of Tottenham fans.

There were a few criticisms of Arsenal throughout the season, but a couple of things hurt them a lot, one of which was a lack of goals from the likes of Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck and the other was the number of injuries to key players throughout the season.

Francis Coquelin, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla have all picked up injuries which kept them out for a number of games which did affect the Gunners. That however cannot be the only reason why the Gunners lost out, they still need a few players who can take the team into the next level.

Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante have been two rocks for Leicester this season and the great thing about the pair is that they have performed regularly for the side. Even when Jamie Vardy went on a bit of a lean spell in front of goal, it was the Algerian attacker and the French midfielder who still kept the Foxes in games.

Riyad as an attacker has been incredible for Leicester. No one would have expected the star to do this well for any side, let alone a club that was expected to struggle to survive this season in the Premier League under Claudio Ranieri but Mahrez has been a revelation for Leicester.

The 25-year-old has scored 17 times and provided 11 assists this season for the Foxes, only Mesut Ozil has had more assist but even the German has not been able to score the same number of goals than the Algerian.

Mahrez would be an incredible signing for Arsenal and could allow them the ability to play with three world class attackers. Mahrez, Ozil and Sanchez behind any striker would ensure that they get a lot of goals and feature a ton of creativity, the trio could also make Olivier Giroud play like a world class striker, even if he does not score the goals, the others would.

Kante though is a different beast. The 25-year-old had a slow start to the season but he got better over time and has become one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League. The French midfielder averaged an impressive 4.5 tackles per game this season, while Arsenal’s bets tackler in midfield, Francis Coquelin got in only 2.9 tackles per game.

Just that stat alone should make Arsene Wenger take out the big book and launch a bid for the Leicester City star but Kante also has a goal and four assists to his name this season. Kante also averaged 4.2 interceptions per game and that is a great stat to have to his name as well.

Arsenal know that they need another star in midfield and in attack and this is the perfect duo to sign. Mahrez and Kante would do a great job for the club and who knows what all the Gunners could achieve if they can even sign one of these two next season.
