Burnley signing this 22-year-old rising Everton star would strengthen a key position in the long run

Burnley opinion: Should the Clarets make a move for Jonjoe Kenny?

Burnley finished last season in 7th place and entered the fray for Europa League qualification as they finished in the last European spot in the Premier League. While that is an incredible achievement, it hasn’t been one that they’ve even come close to repeating.

Instead, the Clarets have struggled for large portions of this season. In the end they did finish in 15th place but it wasn’t a safe journey to 15th place, with the club flirting heavily with the drop zone for most of the season.

In fact, things got so bad that at one stage the club was sitting rock bottom before climbing back out.

Weeks later, they found themselves back in the drop zone. That inconsistency really hurt them and in the end out of 38 games, the Clarets had 20 losses to their name and were lucky that they had managed to win 11 games.

Otherwise, things could have gotten a lot worse for Sean Dyche and his men, which is something they need to change. Furthermore, what Dyche really needs to freshen up is his ageing squad.

Sure, Burnley have a squad full of experience and few youngsters in their midst, but that needs to change if they ever want to do well. Plus, with Stephen Ward leaving and both Mattew Lowton and Phil Bardsley way past their prime, they need another full-back.

It’s among the many reasons why they need to win the race for Jonjoe Kenny and the Daily Mail has reported as such. The Clarets are the front-runners for the young Evertonian, as he prepares for more game-time in the near future.

Furthermore, the report from the Mail adds that Burnley also had an offer rejected in January but are not the only ones in the race. Crystal Palace are also keen on a move for the 22-year-old as they also look for a right-back.

But for Burnley, they are the ones who need to win the race and given Kenny’s versatility to be able to play across the back-line, it does make him a great move. Combine that with his Premier League experience and bid for regular game-time and it makes the move a no-brainer.

Not only that, at the age of 22, Jonjoe Kenny will only improve going forward.

Conclusion

Burnley need to freshen up their side and adding someone like Jonjoe Kenny will only help the club moving forward. At the age of 22, he would be their second youngest player and that alone says a lot about the Clarets.

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
