According to a report in the Sun, Chelsea’s Danny Drinkwater has been linked with a move to Sean Dyche’s Burnley.
Chelsea will be doing the right thing by offloading him and Sean Dyche could really use someone with the former Manchester United academy graduate’s skillset at Turf Moor.
Drinkwater was one of the key figures in Leicester City’s miraculous triumph in the 2015/16 season and moved to Chelsea under Antonio Conte in the 2017/18 season.
However, he hardly appeared for the Blues since his move. The move itself was a bizarre one, with the only factor to validate it being his on-field partnership with N’Golo Kante.
Drinkwater is an able passer of the ball from deep and usually holds his defensive position. He has a fantastic long-range pass, which was often the catalyst for much of Leicester City’s counter-attacks during their title-winning run.
He’s still only 29 and has never depended much on mobility, with his positioning doing most of the work for him.
Drinkwater is unlikely to be in new Chelsea boss Frank Lampard’s plans, as the manager has shown a preference for youth during the pre-season friendlies.
With Jorginho, Matteo Kovacic and Kante already at the club, Drinkwater isn’t going to have a lot of chances and it’s best if he took the time to play some football again. He’d also fit in perfectly with Sean Dyche’s side and provide some much-needed experience.
Burnley head into most seasons looking to simply survive in the Premier League and their achievements in the 2017/18 season which saw them climb up to 7th place might have exceeded expectations.
After their stuttering start to last season’s campaign, the Clarets need to ensure a steady season in the Premier League once again by making as a good a start as possible.
They won’t be having to deal with Europa League qualification anymore, which will help them get off to a better start than last year.

It’s important that they continue their progress by slowly adding some depth and quality. Drinkwater will give them that and his experiences at United, Chelsea and Leicester will be invaluable to the rest of the side.
