Two Transfer Ins and One Transfer Out That Could Boost Bristol City’s Promotion Chances

Share

With the new Championship season not too far away, all the clubs in the division are looking at their squads and working out who to sell and who to buy to make the 2018/19 season a success.

Bristol City had a fantastic season last term, finishing 11th in the table, moving up 6 places from the 2016/17 campaign. They actually finished just 8 points adrift of the play-off places.

If a couple of results had gone their way, the season could have been an unmitigated success for the Robins. Bristol City’s improvement last season was partially down to some excellent management from Lee Johnson, but the impressive form of Bobby Reid turned out to be vital. The 25-year-old scored 19 goals for them in the league last season.

But what moves do they need to make to boost their promotion chances next season?

Ins

Matej Vydra

The Championship’s top goalscorer last season has been linked with a move away from Derby County this summer. Several clubs, including Leeds United and West Brom, have been credited with showing interest in Vydra, who struck 21 Championship goals in the 2017/18 campaign.

And Bristol City should also try to sign the 26-year-old if they wish to mount a serious promotion push next season as he could form a formidable partnership with Reid up front.

Jack Marriott

Bristol City have been linked with making a move for Peterborough striker Marriott, who was League One’s top goalscorer last season. He would most certainly boost the Robins’ firepower up front but Bristol City need to act fast as a total of eight clubs are interested in the striker. It remains to be seen if they manage to win the race for his signature.

Outs

Matty Taylor

With Bristol City starting to move up the league table and becoming something of a force, they need to get rid of some of the deadwood around the club to make room for new signings. And Taylor is one such player, who doesn’t have a future at Ashton Gate.

The striker has failed to make a mark since joining Bristol City from their local rivals Bristol Rovers in January 2017, and it may be time for both parties to go their separate ways.
