Reading vs Leeds United report: Leeds United match report

Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United side triumphed 3-0 over Reading at the Madejski Stadium, thanks to an early goal from Mateusz Klich and a first-half brace from Spanish star Pablo Hernandez.

This crucial fixture for the Whites began with a large amount of possession and control, with Reading really struggling to come into the game. They were able to move the ball around quickly and the short passing of Mateusz Klich was an added advantage too.

Their dominance was very clear right from the start as they were able to retain the ball and keep the ball in important and dangerous areas. It looked like it was only a matter of time before they got the opening goal.

It came in the 14th-minute when a ball into the box from right-back Luke Ayling found Klich unmarked in the middle. He was composed enough to tuck it home with his right foot to make it 1-0 to the away side on the night.

The Whites’ dominance continued and Reading really struggled to have a say in the course of the game. Marcelo Bielsa’s tactics were certainly working and the assurance goal wasn’t far away.

They got their second goal of the night in the 22nd minute when Luke Ayling, who seemed to be in unbeatable form, delivered another neat ball which was tucked home well by veteran Spaniard Pablo Hernandez. With the scoreline at 2-0, the onus was now on Reading to come out and chase the game.

But despite their best efforts, the Whites controlled the midfield and didn’t allow any sustained passages of play. While they were defending efficiently, their attacking play was the highlight of the first half.

They soon got a third goal that put the fixture beyond the home side even before the half-time whistle had gone. Patrick Bamford picked out a neat ball to Hernandez who picked out the top left corner of the Reading goal from outside the box.

Hernandez got his brace and made the scoreline 3-0 in favour of the away side and as the teams went into half-time, Leeds were certainly the happier of the two sides. As the second half began, Leeds still kept control of the ball and didn’t give the home side too much of a chance.

Despite both teams creating chances, the second half did get quite tactical at times but the away side kept pushing, trying to find the fourth goal but it didn’t come. Despite all of Reading’s attempts, they were unable to conjure up any type of comeback and Leeds United were comfortable 3-0 winners.

Here’s how some jubilant Whites fans reacted to this emphatic win:
