Crystal Palace got back to winning ways after losing two games on the bounce in the Premier League. The Eagles held their nerve to clinch a 1-0 victory against Swansea City in the league cup. Playing at the Liberty Stadium, Palace created a number of opportunities going forward and took the game to the Swans.
Graham Potter’s men weren’t too shabby either. The Swans came close on a couple of occasions but failed to make their chances count. Alexander Sorloth scored his first goal for the club to send Palace to the next round of the League Cup.
The Swans tested the Spanish shot-stopper on a couple of occasions but didn’t really threaten his goal.
Palace definitely enjoyed having the young full-back who was once again impressive in both sides of the field.
The former Liverpool defender was impressive defensively and came close to scoring from one or two set-pieces.
Riedewald didn’t look comfortable defensively, but he picked up the assist for Sorloth’s goal.
Schlupp’s versatility allowed the player to operate as an able full-back. The former Leicester City man raided down the left flank.
The 23-year-old didn’t look comfortable on the ball and gave away possession on a few occasions.
Kouyate showed just why he was brought to the club. The former West Ham man was defensively solid and came close to scoring.
Meyer looked energetic in his first start for the club. The German threatened the Swansea defence and won a number of crucial fouls outside the area.
Williams’ direct runs posed all sorts of problems for the Swansea defenders. He was a constant menace down the left-wing.
Puncheon’s displays were not up to the mark and his distribution was slightly sloppy.
Capped off an excellent performance with his first goal for the club. Sorloth tested the Swansea defence on countless occasions and finally took his chance.
Townsend came on and brought some much-needed bite in the final third. The former Newcastle man whipped in some neat crosses as well.
Ward was brought on to add some energy in the defence and the full-back ensured Palace saw out the win.
The midfielder didn’t have enough time to influence the game but provided cover in the middle of the park.
