Disappointing Walker – The Best And The Worst Rated Tottenham Hotspur Players vs West Ham United

Share

Full Time: West Ham United 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League title hopes all but ended when they were handed a 1-0 defeat by London rivals West Ham United at the London Olympic Stadium on Friday night.

The North Londoners started the game well, with Harry Kane and Eric Dier testing Adrian in the Hammers’ goal, but seemed to fade away as the game progressed. And Argentine attacker Manuel Lanzini would have the final say as he scored the winner for West Ham in the 65th minute with a scrappy effort, to all but sink Tottenham’s title ambitions.

The result means Tottenham can fall seven points behind the leaders Chelsea, who will be taking on relegation battlers Middlesbrough on Saturday. Here is how the Tottenham players fared on the night:

Tottenham Player Ratings

Hugo Lloris – 6/10

Had a close shave with a tackle on Lanzini in the first-half, came out without conceding a penalty. Good handling and made a decent stop to deny Jonathan Calleri. No chance with the goal.

Kyle Walker – 5/10

Booked very early on in the game, harshly though. Could not get forward with very little space to work with. Ineffective on return.

Toby Alderweireld – 6/10

Made three important tackles, but was tested by Lanzini’s piercing direct runs. Went missing for the goal.

Jan Vertonghen – 5.5/10

Looked susceptible against the long balls and wasn’t at all comfortable when West Ham counter attacked. Surprisingly subdued and was replaced after the goal.

Ben Davies – 6/10

Fared slightly better than Walker on the opposite flank, but still could not penetrate through what was effectively a back-five for the Hammers.

Eric Dier – 6.5/10

Was on the receiving end of a horrible challenge by Mark Noble, but recovered well. Did a decent job in the middle of the park overall.

Victor Wanyama – 7/10

Rock solid in midfield as always. Strong in tackle, but couldn’t always thwart West Ham from creating chances. Looked tired with time.

Christian Eriksen – 6/10

After a series of brilliant performances, the Dane found it hard to create an opening in the attacking third for his teammates. Kept plugging away, but to no avail.

Dele Alli – 5.5/10

There were a few moments where he threatened, but largely rendered ineffective by a crowd of West Ham midfielders and defenders.

Heung-Min Son – 7/10

Lots of creativity in the final third, had a shot saved as well in the second period. Made the most number of tackles in the game among his teammates.

Harry Kane – 6/10

Went close on two occasions but was denied by Adrian. Was a threat throughout with his runs, but it wasn’t enough.

Substitutes

Mousa Dembele – 6/10

Came on for Vertonghen in the 67th minute. Could not affect the proceedings.

Vincent Janssen – 6/10

Replaced Wanyama for the last twenty minutes. No impact.

Kieran Trippier – NA

Came on to replace Walker in the 80th minute. Booked late in the game.
